Die erfolgreiche Durchführung von Software-Projekten ist eine schwierige Aufgabe, da nicht nur technische, sondern auch organisatorische Probleme gemeistert werden müssen. Junge Projektleiter scheitern häufig bereits an ihrem ersten Projekt, da es ihnen an Erfahrung fehlt. Es ist darum sinnvoll, Studenten schon im Rahmen der Ausbildung die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich als Projektleiter zu versuchen, ohne dass sie die Angst des Scheiterns verspüren und sich Sorgen über die damit verbundenen Konsequenzen machen müssen.

Both, technical and organizational, problems must be solved, and less experience in project management usually yields to failed projects. Therefore, it is useful to provide trainees the opportunity to take the role of a project manager during their education. By simulations, the anxiety about project failure and the worry about the associated consequences should be taken from students.

Universitäten und Fachhochschulen erheben zwar den Anspruch, Studierende auch für Projektmanagement auszubilden, im Rahmen von Lehrveranstaltungen kann dies allerdings nur sehr bedingt und punktuell erfolgen.

Das AMEISE-System bietet Studierenden der Informatik, der Betriebs- und Wirtschaftinformatik sowie fachverwandter Universitäts- oder Fachhochschulstudien die Möglichkeit, an einem Simulator Projektmanagement-Erfahrung zu sammeln. Vergleichbar zum Training eines Piloten an einem Flugsimulator können bei AMEISE durchaus kritische Situationen vorgegeben und trainiert werden, ohne dass dabei gleich ein wirkliches Projekt in Absturzgefahr kommt.
The AMEISE system provides students of computer science and business economics (as well as other subject-related university or college studies), the ability to collect project management experience on a simulator. Comparable to the training of pilots in a flight simulator, critical situations can be defined and trained, without bringing real project in danger. Whereas a real-life project would take several months, AMEISE allows for managing projects by trainees in a few hours. They are nevertheless faced with the typical problems in software projects and these situations needs to be solved during the simulation run. The heart of the AMEISE system was developed at the Universität Stuttgart, and it is called “SESAM simulator”.  
 
Somit können zukünftige Projektleiter in wenigen Stunden Projekte durchführen, die normalerweise mehrere Monate dauern würden. Dabei werden sie mit typischen Problemen in Projekten konfrontiert, die von ihnen bewältigt werden müssen. Kern des AMEISE-Systems ist der an der Universität Stuttgart entwickelte Simulator SESAM.

Dadurch können Sie das selbstständige Planen und Durchführen von Projekten üben und sich dabei wichtige Projektmanagementfunktionen aneignen.
